I'm a Brooklyn based painter often employed in animation. I got my BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1997 and have lived in New York since- minus 4 years (1999 to 2003) to live, travel, paint, and volunteer in Armenia.

I'm currently the Color Supervisor on "The Venture Bros.", an animated series on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network). I've color supervised, painted, and designed on a variety of animated shows- the better known of these are "Disney's Doug", "Daria", "MTV's Downtown", and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Between seasons I focus on my own work and curate small gallery shows.

My paintings are folk inspired with a slight nod to pop surrealism. My compositions tend to be bold, boxy, and character driven. I am always experimenting with new and strange ways to use color and lighting. My favorite colors are red, aqua, orange, and light brown.

My recent body of work reflects an obsession with a kind of fictitious portraiture. In contrast to the bold compositions and colors that characterize this series, each subject’s “story” is presented rather evasively with half-seen props, suggestive locations, and emotionally charged colors. For example, folded hands that are red at the knuckles suggest extreme tension in an otherwise relaxed appearing figure, or a figure backlit and resting in warm shadows triggers a sense of avoidance. These visual suggestions and provocations are meant to, when pieced together, evoke a strong sense of my subject’s story without telling it literally. Each narrative, though not made fully known to the viewer, is a fairly developed story based on an imagined character. Awkwardness, femininity, and escapism are reoccurring themes.
